An herbal supplement called Kratom is stirring controversy in central Ohio as opposing voices debate on whether the product is saving lives or taking lives.
Columbus mother Jennifer Young contacted ABC 6 On Your Side Investigates after she claimed the powdery substance killed her son. His autopsy showed a "lethal" level of Mitragynine found in his system which is a component of Kratom. Her son bought the supplement over the counter in a shop near their home. Young said he took it for several years to help him with his anxiety.
"It has been traumatizing," Young told ABC 6 Investigator Lisa Rantala.
What is Kratom and why are there no regulations on it in Ohio even after the federal government called is a "drug of concern?"
